Blonde Brownies

Rich, chewy brownie with chocolate chips on top.

16 brownies

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter or margarine, room temperature
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 large egg
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan using Pan Release or baking spray with flour. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, add butter and brown sugar. Mix well. Add egg and vanilla. Blend well. Add flour mixture, a little at a time, mixing well. Stir in walnuts. Spread in prepared pan. Sprinkle top with chocolate chips.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan or until a toothpick inserted halfway between the edge and center comes out clean. Do not overbake. Center should be set (slightly sticky) but not dry. Cool completely in pan on wire cooling rack.
