Cherry Brownies

2 1/2 cups flour, sifted
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
5 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
2 cups sour cherries
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, rounded


Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan using Pan Release or cooking spray.

In a medium mixing bowl, add flour, granulated sugar and baking powder. Mix well. Add eggs one at a time mixing well in between additions. Add vanilla, butter and brown sugar. Mix well. Stir in walnuts and sour cherries. Pour into prepared baking pan.

Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted halfway between edge and center comes out clean. Do not overbake. Center should be set but not dry. Cool on wire rack before cutting.
