Cherry Cake Brownies

These delicious brownies start with a chocolate cake mix, then flavored with almond and cherry pie filling. When cooled, they are covered with an easy creamy chocolate frosting. The entire family will love them!

16 brownies

1 package chocolate cake mix
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
2 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
5 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/3 cup milk
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375°F (191°C). Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan using baking pan using Pan Release or baking spray with flour.

In a large bowl, mix chocolate cake mix, almond extract, cherry pie filling and eggs. Beat until well blended. Pour into a prepared pan.

Bake for 20 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted halfway between the edge and center comes out clean. Do not overbake. Center should be set (slightly sticky) but not dry. Cool completely in pan on wire cooling rack.

In a saucepan, bring sugar, butter and milk to a boil. Boil for about 1 minute, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat and add chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate completely melts, then spread over the cooled brownie cake. Cut into bars.
