Chocolate Cream Cheese Brownies


36 brownies


1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter or margarine, room temperature
1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature
2 cups granulated sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup chopped nuts
Chocolate Brownie Icing (optional)


Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease the bottom of a 13 x 9-inch baking pan using Pan Release or baking spray with flour. In a medium bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, cream cheese and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture until well blended. Stir in nuts. Spread batter into prepared pan.

Bake 35 to 40 minutes or just until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Center should be set but not dry. Cool completely in pan on wire cooling rack.

Prepare Chocolate Brownie Icing. Spread over brownies. Cut into bars.
