Caramel Spritz Cookies

These delicious cookies have a wonderful caramel flavor.


6 dozen cookies


1 cup vegetable shortening
3/4 cups dark brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 cups granulated (white) sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt


Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C).

In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening, sugars, eggs and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. Gradually add flour, baking soda and salt. Beat on low speed until blended.

Fit a cookie press with desired design plate and fill with dough. Press out cookies 1 inch apart onto ungreased baking sheets.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes on cooling rack. Remove cookies from baking sheet and continue to cool on cooling rack.


Use butterfly design plate. Sprinkle with candied sprinkles, jimmies or nonpareils before baking, if desired.
