Holiday Wreaths

These wreaths are often called spritz cookies because they are squirted through a cookie press. If you don't own a cookie press, use a pastry bag fitted with a star-shaped tip.


4 dozen


1 cup shortening
1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
green food coloring or green sugar (optional)


Preheat oven to 375°F (191°C).

In a mixing bowl, cream shortening, cream cheese and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla. Gradually blend in flour.

Place star design tip on press and fill. Holding press in a semi-horizontal position, form wreaths by moving press in a circular motion. Gently push ends of dough together to form wreaths.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until set and lightly brown. Remove from oven and cool for 1 minute. Remove cookies from baking sheet and place on cooling rack until cool.

Additional Information

If desired, color dough with a few drops of green food coloring before filling press, or sprinkle cookies with green sugar after forming wreaths and add red ball candies.
