Viennese Shortbread Star Cookies

These delicious buttery cookies are made in your cookie press using the star or flower plate. Then they are sandwiched between a French Silk filling.

Cookie Ingredients

1 cup margarine or butter, room temperature
1/2 cup confectioners' (powdered) sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder

French Silk Filling Ingredients

2 2/3 cups confectioners' (powdered) sugar
2/3 cup butter or margarine, room temperature
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted, then cooled
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract


Preheat oven to 375°F (191°C).

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until creamy. Stir in flour and baking powder.

Using the medium star plate on cookie press fill cookie press with dough. Form 3-inch strips of dough on ungreased baking sheet, or use a flower plate to press flowers.

Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until edges are light brown. Cool 2 minutes on wire cooling rack. Remove cookies from baking sheet and continue to cool on wire cooling rack.

To make French Silk Filling: In small mixer bowl, blend sugar, butter, chocolate and vanilla on low speed. Slowly add milk. Beat until smooth. Put cookies together in pairs French Silk Filling.
