How to Crush Peppermint Candies or Candy Canes

Have leftover candy canes or peppermint candies from Christmas? Often recipes for holiday baking contain crusted peppermints. Making your own crushed peppermint from leftover candy canes or candies is a delicious way to enjoy them and a wonderful way to get rid of them! Candy canes have a long shelf life and can be used next year for your holiday baking. Follow these easy directions for crushing them.

What you need to make 1 cup of crushed candies

  • about 50 peppermint candies
  • resealable plastic bag
  • rolling pin, heavy skillet, mallet, small hammer or food processor

To make 1 cup of crushed peppermint candies

  1. Place peppermint candies in a large resealable plastic bag. Close bag.
  2. Pound with rolling pin, heavy skillet, mallet or small hammer until coarsely crushed. Or, process in food processor using on/off pulsing action.
